Camden Council has introduced a useful new scheme to keep London’s air cleaner.

A new rule from March 12th 2018 allows Civil Enforcement Officers to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to drivers who leave their car engines idling. Drivers will be asked to switch off their engines within reason, but those who do not oblige will receive an FPN from Camden Council.

This would mostly be applicable to drivers who have pulled over to use their phone, are waiting for somebody, or in stationary traffic for a prolonged period.

Camden Council previously launched an air quality campaign, and this new scheme is a small but useful part of it.

Everybody in London should be aware of the part they can play to reduce emissions. By switching off your car engine when it’s not needed will be a step in the right direction.
