Molly Hocking to play at The Camden Chapel

Molly Hocking is a voice to be heard, a personality to be experienced, a soul to behold. We caught up with Molly in the build-up to her show in Camden Town at The Camden Chapel on March 23rd 2023

How did you get into the world of performing music?

I got into music when I joined my local theatre in St Ives when I was 8. I spent 10 years acting and singing until I auditioned for The Voice UK in my local pub – an amazingly, went on to win it with my mentor Olly Murs.

What is your songwriting process, and lyric writing approach?

My songwriting process is quite chaotic actually… I have a very busy brain and am often up at 4am singing into my phone or scribbling down ideas; it’s quite spontaneous although always related to what I’m feeling or experiences I am going through. My EP, Up, which has 4 songs on it was written in lockdown and I really poured my soul in that one!

You’ve got releases available to listen to, which are some of your favourite songs that you’ve already released?

I have lots of original and cover songs on all streaming platforms. My Spotify listeners have gone up by 90% since I became an independent artist (I was signed to Polydor) purely from releasing what I want to.

One of my favourite originals is “Let you Go” which I co-wrote, the lyrics could relate to anybody and just touch your soul and the melody is just really soothing.

For your live music concert in Camden Town, what can the audience expect to see and hear?

My concert at The Camden Chapel (London Irish Centre) is one I am so looking forward to, it’s going to be a really intimate night and there will be time for Q & A too but I have an amazing pianist accompanying me called Eden. Together we change old classics and make them our own. I will also be singing a selection of my original songs: anyone who comes along can expect a unique night of music which I’m sure they will not have experienced before (and I hope will enjoy!!)

The future is bright… what can your fans hope to see and hear from you in the upcoming months and years?

In terms of my future in the music industry, The Voice UK was an amazing experience and has given me a platform.

I have been lucky to perform in some great venues (the O2 with Olly Murs, British summertime Hyde Park supporting Celine Dion, The Camden Roundhouse). However, nothing comes on a plate … it’s hard work especially being unsigned and with no management…but my platform is growing, and I am determined to one day become a well-known name in the business.
