Exploring Camden is never a dull business, especially with so many beautiful, quirky and delicious new additions that have popped up over the past few months. So we thought it was a good time to explore Camden together! Are you with us? Nina Christopoulou takes a look…
1. The Golden Lion
Although this building has been around for quite some time, it’s only recently that its new owners, Aaron and Trevor, took to reinventing it! They have kept the traditional pub feel the place had to it, but infused it with a seasonally renewable selection of mouth-watering dishes. Their dedication to high quality food means that only the freshest produce ends up on your plate, and that their Sunday Roast is one of those “must” experiences when in Camden.
2. Basta- Falafel & Grill
It doesn’t take long to fall in love with this new foodie spot at the heart of the Stables Market. One bite will do the trick! Their veggie selection is hard to choose from, their meat options are cooked to perfection, and their pita falafel is not to be compared to any other vegan dish you’ve tried… Don’t believe us? Drop by Basta for a little taster and find out for yourself.
Artos is dubbed a bakery, but it’s definitely not your average bakery! This brand new Camden spot has been around Chalk Farm Road a little over three months, and has managed to win our hearts with its puffy pastries, traditional spinach pies, eclectic Freddo Espressos and delicious desserts of all sorts… Honouring its Greek heritage, it recently added Souvlaki to its menu giving us even more of a reason to fall in love with its food.
4. Kuku Riku
Kuku Riku recently dropped at North Yard and it has one sole mission: to alter our perception of how chicken is supposed to be cooked once and for all! The new Camden Market addition features a sleek interior with industrial details, and a Josper oven that is hard to miss when you walk through the door. The secret to the uniqueness of this rotisserie
chicken is in its succulent marinade and the extensive experience of Executive Chef Alistair Dibbs (Former Executive Sous Chef, Harrods).
Its selection among Baby Chicken, Hot Wings, Cornish Red Free Range 70 Day Chicken and the Buttermilk Chicken Breast Burger is hard to pick from, and their extensive list of sides makes their menu the perfect pastime activity for any food lover!
5. Camden Town Roadkill
The paradox with this addition to North Yard, which hasn’t been around for a full two months yet, is that its name definitely doesn’t hint to it ethical character. This self-proclaimed butcher has a short menu that encapsulates the values of a meat lover perfectly. If the thought of a 35-day dry aged Sirloin, Fillet or Rib-Eye on your plate doesn’t make your heart flutter, then we should probably say this is not for you, yet we’re sure you’ll find another extremely delicious meat treat that will make you drool…
As if their meat dedicated menu wasn’t enough of an incentive to visit, their focus on local and British produce and sustainability makes them even more of a delightful addition to the Camden neighbourhood. And if you’d prefer to pop in for the know-how rather than the food itself, you should keep an eye out for their Masterclasses… They’re definitely eye openers!
6. Camden Grocer
Food connoisseurs have yet another reason to celebrate the Camden Market’s turn to good food, with Camden Grocer offering a luxury delicatessen and café. Camden Grocer’s selection of fine food and cheese is highly associated with the Great Taste Award products, having exclusive wholesale contracts with many of them. The shift of the North Yard section of Camden Market towards a fine foods and beverages offering is evident, and Camden Grocer is at the centre of it all! With their sights set at becoming a household name within the London luxury retail sector, the Camden Grocer’s perfectly curated selection of artisan products will undoubtedly grab your attention!
7. 40 Zero Camden
Their launch party was a testament to the café’s passion for their work, with an array of entertainment options that would keep surprising the guests all night long. In between the
excitement for the tattoo artist, the illustrator and the artist that would create a beautiful mural to grace the wall of 40zero, it was difficult to see the space clearly. It wasn’t until we went back for drinks that we noticed its grunge style, and the all-day eating experience it has to offer! Grab breakfast, brunch, or amazing drinks at this shiny new Parkway addition, and don’t forget to head to the loos at one point or another; they are worthy of an Instagram story!
